Dr. Matthew Lavery serves as the Director of Research for the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee. Prior to the EOC, he taught at the secondary level for eight years before earning a Doctorate in Educational Research Methodology, Measurement, and Analysis from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Lavery has conducted educational research, taught classroom assessment methods to prospective teachers, and taught research methods to graduates students for three research universities in as many states. His research has been published in the Journal of Teacher Education, Teachers College Record, and Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice.
