Lisa Nielsen began at the New York City Department of Education in 1997 and has worked in various capacities as a public school teacher and administrator. Currently she serves as the Senior Director of Digital Literacy and Inclusion. In this capacity she helps staff create content that is accessible to all including those with disabilities and who speak languages other than English. She spearheaded the Department's work on the student social media guidelines and works to ensure that educators are able to support students in being responsible digital citizens. Nielsen is the author of several books and her writing has been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, T.H.E. Journal, and Tech & Learning.
