Welcome and Introductions
Edtech luminary Carl Hooker brings his enthusiasm and passion for education to the Dallas Summit as our host and MC for the day. Carl has been a part of a strong educational shift with technology integration during his 23 years in education, and he will facilitate fun and interactive conversations throughout the day to ensure attendees walk away with innovative ideas they can put into action.

Breakout EDU Activity
Attendees will get to meet each other through a unique Breakout EDU team-building experience, where teams work together to solve academically-aligned puzzles. Can you and your team help to Breakout of The Faculty Lounge?

Working Groups and Sponsor Meetings
Attendees either participate in facilitated small group discussions focused on important topics related to strategic planning or meet with industry partners. Topics will include:

  • Data Privacy & Security: How do districts manage access to data in safe, efficient ways? Attendees share their policies and best practices. 
  • “Learning Loss” -- or “Learning Realignment?”: How are districts assessing and addressing learning loss -- and gains? And are these assessments delivering an accurate, unbiased  picture of what students are learning? Attendees will share their experiences and perspectives.  
  • Technology Management/Building Sustainable Classrooms: How are districts building a sustainable, equitable  technology infrastructure? How are they ensuring all students are connected? Attendees discuss their plans for device management/refreshes, and building robust, scalable networks.
  • Career & College Readiness: How are schools preparing their students for jobs that might not yet exist? This session explores the importance of developing the soft skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce.

Unlocking Failure: Using Risk-taking to Open Up Creativity 
Risk-taking and celebrating failure can be great ways to stimulate creativity in the classroom. During this very interactive session, Carl Hooker leads attendees through a series of improv activities designed to help activate the creative side of their brains. Come prepared to move, think, and leave your inhibitions at the door. It’s not how you fall down, it’s how you get back up!

  • Rethinking Learning Spaces: In this session, attendees will discuss how they have created effective learning spaces and what technology they use to support these new spaces. 
  • Professional Development: How are districts supporting the ever-evolving professional needs of their staff? Attendees discuss new ways to engage their teachers through professional development. 
  • Ending Silos: Shared responsibilities across department lines (curriculum, accountability, HR, Business office, etc) Having a seat at the table when decisions are being made. How solutions are made or created. 
  • Changing Pedagogy: How has the pandemic changed the ways schools teach and students learn? Attendees explore new approaches to innovative pedagogy.

Site Visit
Attendees will visit the Gilbreath-Reed Career and Technical Center that serves juniors and seniors from all seven high schools within Garland ISD. The mission of Gilbreath-Reed is to prepare employable students by offering hands-on learning with supportive local partnerships. Gilbreath-Reed offers more than 30 advanced career programs, as well as industry-based certifications and dual credit programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the teachers and students from this unique school, as well as tour the campus.
