Bio
Satish has worked for over 20 years in the education, social service, and mental health fields serving children and youth, and persons across the lifespan. He is a behavior specialist at the Brooklyn Regional Partnership Center in the Special Education Office, in the Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support of the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE). He has served as citywide director of NYC Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), after working as a coordinator and positive behavior support coach for school staff working with students with disabilities at NYCDOE District 75. Prior to joining the NYCDOE, Satish worked in the field of human rights as a policy advocate, trauma-based mental health practitioner, and teacher for immigrant and refugee children and youth in Chicago, IL. He holds dual Masters degrees in Public Policy and in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.

Satish is currently serving a third 3-year term (2019-2022) on the Board of Directors of the International Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS), where he is co-chair of the Equity and Integrated Systems Committee. He has served as a liaison to the USDOE-funded National Center on PBIS, and as a member of the PBIS Advisory Group of the Northeastern United States. Satish was on the Advisory Board of the New York State-funded Technical Assistance Center on Disproportionality (TAC-D) at New York University (2014-2019), and during 2015-16, he served on the New York City Mayor's Office Leadership Team on School Climate and Discipline. He was also a member of the New York State Office of Mental Health Promise Zones Interagency Workgroup (2009-2017). Satish is co-author of a recent chapter on “Social Justice and School Discipline: Schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS),” in Social Justice for Children and Young People: International Perspectives (Cambridge University Press, 2020). Satish has presented papers on trauma and children and youth, school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and integrated multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), at regional, state, national, and international conferences.
