As the Senior Director of Family Support within the Special Education Office, Shah manages, directs, and resolves escalations from families, advocates, and community stakeholders that impact students with disabilities and their families. Coordinating with Superintendent’s Offices and their Central Support teams, Committees on Special Education (CSE/CPSE) as well as Offices of Supervisors of School Psychologists, Safety and Youth Development (OSYD), Pupil Transportation and many other Central teams: Shah ensures escalations are responded to, investigated, and managed to resolution promptly. Through these interactions, she discerns prevailing and historical trends, shaping policies, designing tailored citywide workshops, and actively engaging stakeholders, including community advocates and elected officials. 

Shah has been with the NYC DOE since 2011 and supported students and families as a District 79 court liaison, special education Impartial Hearing representative, and joined the Special Education Office as Associate Director of Special Projects in 2018. Shah holds a Master’s degree in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an advanced certificate in Child Protection from the Harvard François Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights.
