Presidential Medal of Freedom Unit for Elementary Educators

Monday, May 6th, 2:30 - 3:30 PM: Modeling and coaching on introducing this unit in elementary classrooms through a contextualized, intersectional approach and unpacking the interactive game for extended learning.


The Healer Stones of Kapaemahu

Wednesday, May 15th, 7:30 - 8:30 PM: This interactive, multimedia session explores our unit on the Healer Stones of Kapaemahu, produced through our partnership with the filmmakers of the PBS documentary of the same name. Through the story of the erasure of the mahu in the age of American imperialism, the story of the mahu connects Hawaiian history to the story of America as well as efforts across the globe to restore native cultures' acceptance of gender diversity.


Summer Reading Book Bites for Teachers and Students

Tuesday, May 21st, 7:30 - 8:30 PM: Explore LGBTQ-inclusive books for readers of all ages: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and more. Participants will leave with recommended booklists for elementary, middle, and high school students as well as suggestions for teachers' summer reading and books to share with colleagues!

Tuesday, June 4th, 7:30 - 8:30 PM: Introduction to a variety of digital and multimedia primary sources to contextualize the June 1969 Stonewall Inn riots as a significant event in American history, as well as Stonewall's lasting - and evolving - influence on today's world.


Inclusive Books for Elementary Students

Thursday, June 6th, 10:00 - 11:00 AM: Introduction to inclusive books for elementary students and highlights of books to share with students for PRIDE Month. Participants will leave with a recommended booklist with links to reviews and further recommendations. 


New and Inspiring Teaching Materials Available to All NYCPS Educators

Thursday, June 6th, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Interactive, multimedia introduction to new history, civics, and social studies content included on the Intersections & Connections digital platform of instructional resources, as well as highlights of content to share with students during PRIDE month.


Using "Commemorating PRIDE" Podcast Episode with Students

Thursday, June 6th, 12:00 - 1:00 PM: Interactive, multimedia introduction to the history behind the Christopher Street Liberation Day March and the primary source materials that informed the production of this Deep Dives and Backstories podcast episode.


NYC Drag Culture from the Mid-19th Century: An Art Form Shaping US History

Friday, June 14th, 2:30 - 3:30 PM: This interactive, multimedia session is anchored in June's Deep Dives and Backstories podcast episode featuring Glitter and Concrete: A Cultural History of Drag in New York City (2023) author Elyssa Maxx Goodman.


Commemorating Juneteenth through an LGBTQ Lens

Wednesday, June 19th, 12:00 - 1:00 PM: This interactive, multimedia session highlights LGBTQ-inclusive African American history and its prominence in shaping the story of America.
