After Dark
Summit attendees are invited to attend the Liberty Science Center’s After Dark party, featuring smoking cocktails, delicious bites, and a night out with a twist of science! At LSC After Dark, attendees get to conquer the daunting Infinity Climber hovering three stories above the ground; check out living art in Microbes Rule!; take selfies with cotton-top tamarin monkeys, naked mole rats, and other fascinating species in Wild About Animals – and much more.

Registration and Breakfast
Attendees arrive to register, network, and enjoy breakfast, as well as get their “Passport to Prizes” pass. Throughout the day, attendees will complete their Passport by visiting with our partners either in scheduled meetings or during lunch if they do not have scheduled meetings.

Welcome and Introductions
Edtech luminary and international keynote speaker Carl Hooker brings his enthusiasm and passion for education to the Summit as our host and MC for the day. As MC, Carl will facilitate fun and interactive conversations throughout the day to ensure attendees walk away with innovative ideas they can put into action.

Keynote: What Does It Means to Be Innovative? 
Risk-taking and celebrating failure are key building blocks to drive innovation. During this  interactive session, Carl Hooker leads attendees through a series of improv activities designed to help activate the creative side of their brains. Come prepared to move, think, and leave your inhibitions at the door. It’s not how you fall down, it’s how you get back up!

Problem-Solving Working Groups and Sponsor Meetings 
Attendees either participate in “Problem-Solving” Working Groups or meet with industry partners. Each Working Group will be presented with four different scenarios that could impact their district and will collaboratively decide what is the best course of action to handle the situation. After each case study, attendees will choose a representative from their group to present their solutions. These solutions will be curated into actions that will be shared in the Tech & Learning Innovation Playbook. 

  • Professional Development: How do you keep your staff motivated to participate in professional development? What risks have you taken that worked - and what didn’t work? Case Study Presenter: Matt Joseph
     
  • Engaging & Collaborating with District Stakeholders: How do you engage your school community and get their buy-in for your programs? What’s worked - and what didn’t? Case Study Presenter: Mike Gaskell 
     
  • Rethinking Learning Spaces: How is your district rethinking the concept of “learning spaces?” What risks are you taking and how do you get buy in for new ideas? How do you measure the success of new learning spaces? Case Study Presenter: Andrew Wallace 
     
  • Changing Pedagogy: How has your district changed the ways schools teach and students learn? How do you inspire your staff to try new approaches? Case Study Presenter: Glenn Robbins

Planning the Future Working Groups and Sponsor Meetings
Attendees either participate in “Planning the Future” Working Groups or meet with industry partners. Attendees group into teams to answer the question: “What does the ideal school district look like?” You have unlimited funds, no politics, no state or federal mandates. The sky's the limit! Your team will receive a series of prompts and will collaborate on your team’s vision for the future of education for each prompt and prepare a presentation that you will “pitch” at the closing session. 

 
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Pitch Contest: Building the District of the Future    
Each team chooses a representative to present the pitch they created for their school of the future. The audience votes on each pitch and the winning teams receive prizes and a feature in the Tech & Learning Innovation Playbook.

 
4:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Awards
Tech & Learning names the winners of the Pitch Contest, the Innovative Leader Awards, as well as the Passport to Prizes winners.
